So if you want to check your internet speed at 3am and compare it to what it’s like at 6pm, you can. You’ll be able to see if you’re getting the most out of your broadband package, and you can take the test at various times of day to see if there is a difference. Also, in the past, I had my sky box close to a radiator - perhaps not surprising it messed up the connection. With the Broadband Finder Speed Test, we can give you a more accurate idea of how fast your broadband is operating at and we measure both download and upload speed. I know it is downloading rather than streaming but I can’t understand why there is such a huge difference.īit of a long-shot oogam, but I had intermittent issues with my wifi connection to my SkyQ and old sky hd box because I had a cordless landline phone near my sky boxes which interfered with the signal somehow.

If I try to watch the same thing through catch- up on the Sky box I can’t because the download is glacial.

#Sky broadband download speed test tv
If I stream iPlayer, Now TV, Amazon Prime or any of the regular streaming services through their apps on my smart tv I can watch them right away in real time, apparently in hd quality, without interruption and through the same broadband and Wi-Fi. I think all this talk about my broadband is a red herring. Should have stuck to NowTV which works well as does iPlayer etc straight to the tv. I’ve never seen any mention of FTTC with MT. Is that what you know as FTTC? If so I tried it and it was slower than ADSL in the evenings and at weekend. It isn’t fibre but you get a new Master Socket SC installed, which I’m still using for ADSL (MT told me to) and an ADSL/VDSL router which is why it is generally known as VDSL locally. MT refer to the next one up from ADSL as Ultima then Ultima Plus. I can't see why if Manx Telecom have a fibre connection to your street box, why you can't have FTTC. That's obviously not as good as FTTP (Fibre To The Premises), where the fibre connection comes all the way into your house, but it's much better than ADSL, which uses the copper wiring all the way from your house to the telephone exchange! That's normal for FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet), the fibre connection is to the street box, and the last run is the normal copper wires from the box to the house. Last thing, downloading (not streaming) from Sky Go to my iPad takes about 7 mins for the same catch- up 1 hour program that takes over three hours on the Sky Q box. He says that on Sky Q they can’t watch Sky catch-up without giving it a very long start so maybe the problem is elsewhere and I’m wasting your time. He has VDSL at about 35mbps daytime with MT. Same speed as Wi-Fi at 12.5 to 13.7mbps.īUT just had the boiler service man round. I have checked Broadband speed by Ethernet to computer. I have tried Ethernet cable and also Powerline adapters but no difference to Wi-Fi. Apparently ‘contention’, lots of heavy users round here so I went back to ADSL. I did go onto VDSL but it was slower than ADSL in the evenings and weekends. No fibre to the door available at my address. I live in the Isle of Man and Sky don’t do broadband or mobile here. If wifi, try connecting it with an ethernet cable, even run it across the floor if you have to temporarily, just to see whether that increases the speed of the download, as it could be a wifi issue. Is the SkyQ box connected via wifi or ethernet? Try calling them as it is somewhat farcical that they’re pushing UHD/HDR much more prominently now, but are still supplying non-compliant main boxes. I don’t necessarily need to use the cooling off period. I just feel a little that I got fobbed off with an old type box, and paid for the privilege! I suppose with a 42in tv (wife insists no bigger) we probably wouldn’t see much if any difference. Bit reluctant to do the cancellation thing. If it says 32Cxx then, unfortunately, it's not. Pressing 'Home' -> 'Settings' -> System Info, if the 'Hardware Version' shows 32B2XX then your box is UHD/HDR-capable. It depends what box you were provided with.

When I looked at the mini box offer I saw that I could have had a Sky Q 2tb box free with a £10pm mini box instead of paying £29 for a 1TB box with no uhd! Slight irritation is that Sky had told me over the phone that Sky Q 2tb boxes were unavailable and I could only have a 1TB box. Day after installation I ordered a mini box as Sky offered it at £10pm for multi screen.
